What is being done to increase safety downtown?
Just as the old adage says, there is safety in numbers. The more people that are downtown on a regular basis, the safer it will become. There are many things being done to bring more people downtown from the new commercial development, to festivals, to new housing developments. Sports events and concerts at the MTS Centre
and Canwest Park are bringing hundreds of thousands of people downtown on evenings and weekends.
Our partners in downtown development, the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ and the Exchange District BIZ are both dedicated to finding ways to increase safety in downtown areas. Their Exchange District Ambassadors and Downtown Watch Ambassadors regularly patrol the downtown streets, and create a greater sense of safety on Winnipeg’s downtown streets.
