December 23rd, 2009

CentreVenture Development Corporation partnering with True North Sports & Entertainment and the Manitoba Moose to donate 100 pair of skates for Central Park

Winnipeg, Manitoba. CentreVenture Development Corporation along with True North Sports & Entertainment Ltd. and the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club will donate 100 pairs of skates for children and their families. The skates will be given to Knox United Church for the community to use at the skating rink located in Central Park.

Ross McGowan, President & CEO of CentreVenture Development Corporation commented, “The redevelopment of Central Park is a great opportunity to provide a renewed gathering place for the large downtown neighbourhood population that lives in the vicinity. CentreVenture is extremely pleased to assist children and their families surrounding Central Park”.

Every winter, millions of Canadians take to the ice, indoors and outdoors, in search of fun, fitness and achievement. The City of Winnipeg Public Works department has recently added Central Park to their list of pleasure rinks for public use throughout the city. Public Works will groom the rink over the winter months.

“Every Canadian who experiences a winter in Canada, should have the opportunity to skate,” said True North Sports & Entertainment President & CEO, Jim Ludlow. “You always see kids at outdoor rinks in winter. It is great exercise and it’s a great social network”. The Moose and True North, as members of the downtown community see this as a wonderful opportunity to improve the quality of life for our inner city neighbourhoods.

“We are tremendously pleased with this generous donation. We are thrilled that this donation will directly benefit the families of our community. It is our distinct pleasure to see the community make use of this park all year round”, cited Pastor Bill Millar of Knox United Church. Arrangements have been made to deliver 100 pairs of gently used skates to Knox United Church this afternoon.

A collaborative partnership between the public and private sectors is contributing to the rebirth of Winnipeg’s historic Central Park. Construction is underway to preserve an important city venue steeped in tradition and revitalize the downtown area. As part of CentreVenture’s commitment to developing green spaces, the redevelopment of Central Park will serve the needs of one of Winnipeg’s most populated neighbourhoods.

True North Sports & Entertainment Limited owns & manages MTS Centre, the Manitoba Moose and Winnipeg’s new Hockey Canada Mooseplex.
