Winnipeg’s Downtown Neighborhood – It’s a Wonderful Lifestyle
Winnipeg, Manitoba, On behalf of The City of Winnipeg, Councillor Scott Fielding will join Mark Penner, President of Green Seed Development Corporation, Johanna Hurme, architect from 5468796 Architecture along with representation from the (R:ED) Residents of the Exchange District John Giavedoni, and community and civic leaders for the official Grand Opening of Phase I of youCUBE’s Development. The Grand Opening events include a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and a tour of the youCUBE model unit.
“I am pleased that the City of Winnipeg was able to provide a Multi-Family/Mixed-Use Building Grant for this great project”, said Scott Fielding. “This project will get us one step closer to revitalizing our downtown and increasing our downtown population which the City has worked hard to accomplish.”
“The youCUBE grand opening is a great kick-off to the launch of Winnipeg’s 2010 Downtown Living Campaign that starts today at 11:00 a.m.” said Ross McGowan. “CentreVenture is very supportive of the youCUBE residential development that will provide prospective homebuyers with affordable living options in the downtown.”
YouCUBE consists of two, three, and four storey loft townhouses clustered together along an elevated community plaza, with resident parking and a new driveway for vehicular access sheltered below. Unit sizes vary from 650 sq/ft to 1350 sq/ft in floor area, ceiling heights soar up to 36 feet creating an impression of much larger spaces. The roof-top terraces, common for all units, allow for panoramic views of the city skyline and the Red River. The average price of the youCUBE units are $250,000.
In December of 2009 youCUBE was a recipient of the Canadian Architect Award of Merit, a national award that is given to only a handful of projects across Canada each year.
“We are proud to add youCUBE to a growing list of great projects being developed in downtown Winnipeg”, said Mark Penner. “With prices starting below $200,000, we are able to blend good design with affordability. Also, we are thrilled to contribute to the rejuvenation of south Point Douglas, by adding 21 new living spaces”.
Within walking distance of the Exchange, the project will enliven the historic district with new residents, pedestrian traffic, and commercial activity, creating an exciting destination at the north end of the Stephen Juba Park corridor.
